Using 乱 as an Adverb: "Randomly / Disorderly"

As an adverb, 乱 describes an action done in a disorderly, careless, or arbitrary way — often with a negative sense.

Unlike its adjective use, adverbial 乱 typically appears before a verb to modify how the action is performed.

Structure

Subj. + 乱 + Verb (+ Object)
Use 乱 to indicate the action is done randomly, carelessly, or without proper order.

Examples

  • 你别说话,老师会生气的。
    Nǐ bié luàn shuō huà, lǎo shī huì shēng qì de.
    Don't speak carelessly, the teacher will get angry.
  • 他把书放在桌子上。
    Tā bǎ shū luàn fàng zài zhuō zi shàng.
    He tossed the books randomly on the table.
  • 孩子们在公园里跑。
    Hái zi men zài gōng yuán lǐ luàn pǎo.
    The children were running around wildly in the park.
  • 请不要动我的东西。
    Qǐng bú yào luàn dòng wǒ de dōng xī.
    Please don't touch my things without permission.
  • 她心里很,做决定的时候总是想。
    Tā xīn lǐ hěn luàn, zuò jué dìng de shí hou zǒng shì luàn xiǎng.
    Her mind is very confused, and she always overthinks things when making decisions.
