Expressing "together" with 一起

一起 means 'together' and is placed before the verb to express doing an action with other people. The subject must be plural, such as a plural pronoun (我们, 你们, 他们) or two nouns joined with 和. Remember not to place 一起 after the verb like in English.

Structure

Subj. (Plural) + 一起 + Verb (+ Obj.)
The subject must be plural; use 和 to link multiple nouns.

Examples

  • 我们一起吃晚饭吧。
    Wǒmen yīqǐ chī wǎnfàn ba.
    Let's eat dinner together.
  • 早上我和老公一起去上班。
    Zǎoshang wǒ hé lǎogōng yīqǐ qù shàngbān.
    In the morning, I go to work together with my husband.
  • 这两个公司一起做这个产品。
    Zhè liǎng gè gōngsī yīqǐ zuò zhège chǎnpǐn.
    These two businesses made this product together.
  • 下班以后，你们一起来我家吧。
    Xiàbān yǐhòu, nǐmen yīqǐ lái wǒ jiā ba.
    After work, why don't you all come to my home together?
  • 结婚以后，你和父母会一起住吗？
    Jiéhūn yǐhòu, nǐ hé fùmǔ huì yīqǐ zhù ma?
    Will you live together with your parents after you get married?
