Expressing "to be worth" doing with 值得

Place 值得 before a verb or verb phrase to say that something is worth doing. You can negate it by adding 不 before 值得. Be careful not to use 值得 directly with adjectives or nouns without a following verb.

Structure

值得 + Verb / Verb Phrase
Negate with 不: 不值得 + Verb / Verb Phrase.

Examples

  • 巴金的散文很值得一看。
    Bājīn de sǎnwén hěn zhídé yī kàn.
    Ba Jin's prose deserves a look.
  • 虽然不容易，但是值得去尝试。
    Suīrán bù róngyì, dànshì zhídé qù chángshì.
    It's not easy, but it's worth a try.
  • 雷锋助人为乐的精神值得我们学习。
    Léifēng zhùrénwéilè de jīngshén zhídé wǒmen xuéxí.
    The spirit of altruism merits some study.
  • 这件小事不值得你担心。
