Expressing "through" with 通过

通过 can be used as a verb to mean "pass through (a place)" or "pass (a test/check)", and as a preposition to introduce the method or agent ("by means of"). The most common mistake is forgetting to use 没 to negate past actions when 通过 is a verb (e.g., 没通过).

Structure

Subj. + (没) + 通过 + Obj.
as a verb meaning to pass through or pass a test
通过 + Agent / Method , Subj. + Predicate
