Expressing "no matter (what/who/how)" with 不论

不论 is a conjunction meaning "no matter" or "regardless of," used to introduce a condition whose outcome does not change.

It is often paired with 都/也 or 总 in the main clause to show the result is the same in every case.

Structure

不论 + Question Word (什么 / 谁 / 哪儿 / 怎么 / 多...) + (都 / 也 / 总) + Result
The question word after 不论 can be any interrogative; 都/也 in the result clause is common.

Examples

  • 不论你是谁,都要排队买票。
    Bú lùn nǐ shì shuí, dōu yào pái duì mǎi piào.
    No matter who you are, you have to line up to buy a ticket.
  • 不论天气怎么样,他每天都去跑步。
    Bú lùn tiān qì zěn me yàng, tā měi tiān dōu qù pǎo bù.
    No matter what the weather is like, he goes running every day.
  • 不论学习多难,我也不会放弃。
