Doing something again from the start with 重新

重新 is an adverb meaning "again" or "once more," often suggesting a fresh start, a new way, or doing something over from the beginning.

Unlike 再, 重新 emphasizes restarting or redoing something rather than simply repeating an action.

Structure

Subj. + 重新 + Verb

Use 重新 before a verb to show the action is being done again, usually in a new way or from the start.

Subj. + 重新 + Verb + (Object)

When the verb takes an object, the object follows normally after 重新 + Verb.

这本书丢了，我只好重新买一本。
Zhè běn shū diū le, wǒ zhǐ hǎo chóng xīn mǎi yì běn.
I lost this book, so I had to buy a new one.
老师让我重新写这篇文章。
Lǎo shī ràng wǒ chóng xīn xiě zhè piān wén zhāng.
