Definition
黍 (shǔ) is a bound form (b.f.) meaning 'proso millet' or 'broomcorn millet' (Panicum miliaceum). It is not used as a standalone word in modern Chinese; you will see it in compounds such as 黍米 (shǔ mǐ, millet grain) or 黍子 (shǔ zi, millet plant). It differs from 小米 (xiǎo mǐ, foxtail millet), which is the more common everyday term. 黍 appears mainly in botanical, historical, or classical contexts.
