高昂 (gāo'áng) is a formal literary word with two senses. (1) 'expensive' is stronger and more formal than 贵 (guì), often for costs/fees. (2) 'high-spirited' describes soaring morale, more elevated than 高涨 (gāozhǎng). As a verb it means to hold one's head high.
