Definition
颤抖 (chàn dǒu) is a more literary/formal word for 'to tremble, to shiver', often describing a gentle or slight shaking (e.g., leaves, hands). It is less colloquial than 发抖 (fā dǒu, common for shivering from cold/fear) and 哆嗦 (duō suo, very colloquial for shivering). 抖 (dǒu) is more versatile, also meaning 'to shake out' or 'to show off'.
