Definition
鞭策 (biān cè) literally means 'whip and spur' — it conveys using pressure or a driving force to push oneself or others toward self-improvement. It is stronger than 激励 (jī lì, motivate) and 勉励 (miǎn lì, earnestly encourage), and more about internal drive than external supervision (督促 dū cù).
