Definition
鞠躬 (jūgōng) refers to the formal act of bowing, bending forward at the waist as a gesture of respect or gratitude. Unlike 低头 (dītóu, to bow one's head) which is less formal and can mean yielding, 鞠躬 is a deliberate, respectful body movement. The literary 俯首 (fǔshǒu) is more archaic and implies submission in thought.
