Definition

非凡 (fēi fán) is a formal, written adjective meaning 'extraordinary, out of the ordinary', used for exceptional talent, ability, or achievements. It is more elevated than the everyday 出色 (chū sè 'outstanding') and less colloquial than 了不起 (liǎo bu qǐ 'amazing'). Unlike the adverb 非常 (fēi cháng 'very'), 非凡 is an adjective and cannot modify verbs.
