青年 (qīngnián) refers to a young adult, roughly from late teens to early 30s. It is broader and more formal than 少年 (shàonián 'early teens to early 20s'), and less poetic than 青春 (qīngchūn 'youth as a vibrant period'). 青年 is the standard term for 'young person' in official, social, and everyday contexts.
