Definition
Originally a historical title from the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BCE) referring to the most powerful feudal lord who dominated over other lords, 霸主 is now used more broadly in modern Chinese to mean 'overlord' or 'dominant power' in any field — business, sports, politics, etc. The word carries a sense of unrivaled authority often achieved through force or superior strength, not necessarily positive.
