Definition
震荡 (zhèn dàng) describes a violent, oscillating shake or jolt—used for physical tremors (quakes, explosions) or figurative upheaval (markets, emotions). It differs from 震动 (zhèn dòng), which is a more general 'shake/shock', and 振动 (zhèn dòng), which is the technical term for mechanical vibration.
