Definition
难得 (nán dé) means 'rare and valuable' — it describes something that seldom happens and is therefore treasured (e.g., a rare opportunity). Unlike 少 (shǎo), which just means 'few in number', 难得 emphasizes the value of the rarity. Compared to 罕见 (hǎn jiàn, 'rarely seen'), 难得 is more often used for events or situations that are hard to come by, not just objects.
