难关 (nán guān) refers to a difficult barrier or hurdle that must be overcome — a critical challenge. Unlike 困难 (kùnnan, general 'difficulty') or 危机 (wēijī, 'crisis' with danger), 难关 emphasizes a specific obstacle you must get past, often used with 渡过 ('get through') or 突破 ('break through').
