Definition
隔热 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to insulate against heat'. The two syllables 隔 and 热 can split when you add aspect particles like 了 or 过, or measure words: 隔了热 ('insulated'), 隔过热 ('have insulated'). You can also insert a duration: 隔了三天热 ('insulated for three days'). It's specifically for thermal insulation, not sound (隔音).
