Definition
陌 is a bound form (粘着语素) that rarely appears alone in modern Chinese. In classical contexts it referred to a path between fields. In modern compounds it carries the sense of 'unfamiliar' or 'strange', most commonly in 陌生 (mòshēng, strange / unfamiliar) and 陌路 (mòlù, stranger / unfamiliar person). As a bound form, it must be combined with another character to form a word.
