Definition
阿訇 (Ā hōng) is a loanword from Persian/Urdu used among Chinese Muslims (the Hui ethnic group) to refer to an imam or Muslim cleric. It is a respectful title for the person who leads prayers, teaches the Quran, and performs religious ceremonies in a mosque. You will most often encounter this term in contexts related to Islam in China.
