Definition
闭 (bì) means 'to close, to shut' and is used for eyes, mouth, doors, curtains, etc. Unlike 关 (guān), it is not used for turning off appliances or machines. 关闭 (guān bì) is a more formal disyllabic synonym often used for closing businesses or shutting down systems.
