Definition
酒 (jiǔ) is the general term for any alcoholic drink — wine, liquor, beer, etc. It is broader than 葡萄酒 (pú tao jiǔ 'grape wine') and 白酒 (bái jiǔ 'Chinese liquor'), which name specific types. Use 酒 when you don't need to specify the kind.
