Definition
配对 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to pair up' or 'to match as a pair'. It can be used for people teaming up, animals mating, or objects being matched. When you need to add a measure word, duration, or complement, 配 and 对 split apart: 配了一个对 ('paired up once'), 配过两次对 ('have paired up twice').
