Definition
遗弃 (yí qì) means to abandon someone or something that you have a duty to care for — like a child, pet, or responsibility. It carries a stronger moral/legal weight than 放弃 (fàng qì 'give up') or 丢弃 (diū qì 'discard'), and is more specific to people/obligations than 废弃 (fèi qì 'abandon as useless'). 抛弃 (pāo qì) is similar but often implies a more active rejection or dumping.
