Definition
造纸 (zào zhǐ) is a verb-object compound (离合词) meaning 'to make paper'. Because it's a separable verb, you can insert aspect markers (了, 过), duration, or measure words between the characters — for example, 造了三天纸 means 'made paper for three days'. The object 纸 'paper' can also be modified: 造这种纸 'make this kind of paper'. In everyday use, it refers to the craft or industrial process of producing paper.
