Definition
通红 (tōnghóng) means 'bright red all over' and is used for a face or body part that is flushed from cold, embarrassment, or exertion. Unlike 红 (hóng), which is the general word for red, 通红 emphasizes an intense, all-over redness; unlike 红扑扑 (hóng pū pū), which describes a healthy, rosy flush on cheeks, 通红 can apply to ears, hands, or the whole face.
