Definition
选中 is a resultative verb (动结式) formed from 选 'to select' and 中 (zhòng) 'to hit the target'. Together it means 'to pick the right one' or 'to select successfully'. The 中 here is pronounced zhòng (4th tone), not zhōng. You can insert 得 or 不 between the two characters to express possibility: 选得中 (can pick correctly) / 选不中 (can't pick correctly). It is also commonly used in the passive voice: 被选中 (to be chosen).
