Definition
送死 is a separable verb (离合词) literally meaning 'to send death'. It is most commonly used colloquially to mean 'asking for trouble' or 'courting death' — going into a situation that is obviously dangerous. It can also be used causatively: 'to send someone to their death'. As a separable verb, you can insert elements between 送 and 死, e.g., 送自己的死 ('to court one's own death'). The old meaning 'prepare for the burial of one's parents' is now archaic and rarely used.
