Definition
退色 (also written as 褪色) means 'to fade (of color)' or 'to become discolored'. It is a separable verb (离合词): 退 can be separated from 色 by aspect markers or complements, e.g. 退了色 ('has faded') or 退得很快 ('fades quickly'). The pronunciation tuì sè is standard; the colloquial reading tuì shǎi is also heard but considered less formal.
