Definition
进城 is a separable verb (离合词) made of 进 (to enter) + 城 (city). It literally means 'to go into the city / town', and is often used to mean 'to move to a big city for work or life' (especially from the countryside). As a v.o., you can insert frequencies or durations between the two parts: 进过一次城 (went to the city once). The object (where you go) is built into the compound — you don't add another object after 进城.
