这 (zhè) is the general word meaning 'this' or 'these.' Use it by itself (这是 'this is') or right before a noun (这书 'this book'). For emphasizing 'this one' or a specific item, use 这个; for plural, use 这些. The word 此 (cǐ) is a more formal equivalent you'll see in writing.
