Definition
还是 (hái shi) has two common uses at this level: as an adverb meaning 'still, as before' (more conversational than the formal 仍然/依然), and in suggestions meaning 'had better' (a softer recommendation than the more direct 最好). It also serves as a conjunction meaning 'or' in alternative questions.
