近期 (jìn qī) is a noun meaning 'recent times' or 'the near future' — it refers to the current period broadly, covering both recent past and upcoming days. It is more formal and written than the everyday 最近 (zuì jìn), and less specific than 近日 (jìn rì, 'the last/few days'). Unlike 近来 (jìn lái, past only) or 日前 (rì qián, past only), 近期 can refer to future as well.
