Definition
Literally 'to pass a film through a projector', 过电影 (guò diànyǐng) is a colloquial metaphor meaning 'to replay scenes in one's mind' or 'to recollect past events vividly'. The verb part 过 can split from 电影 in certain constructions (e.g. 过了一遍电影), but this expression is mostly used as a fixed four-syllable phrase. The image is like mentally running a movie reel of memories.
v.o.
(colloquial) to recollect or mentally replay past events like a film reel
