过年 (guò nián) specifically means 'to celebrate the Chinese New Year' or 'to spend the New Year holiday'. It is different from 过节 (guò jié, HSK3), which is a general term for celebrating any festival (e.g., 中秋节, 端午节). Use 过年 only for the Lunar New Year period.
