Definition
辞典 (cí diǎn) is a formal, often comprehensive dictionary that may include encyclopedic entries. It is very similar to 词典 (cí diǎn), but 辞典 tends to be used for larger reference works (e.g., an encyclopedia-dictionary), while 词典 is the everyday word for any dictionary. 字典 (zì diǎn) specifically refers to a Chinese character dictionary, organized by radicals or pinyin.
