Definition
辜负 (gū fù) means to let down someone's trust, expectations, or efforts—it centers on failing someone who believed in you, often unintentionally. It is weaker than 背叛 (bèi pàn 'betray'), which implies deliberate disloyalty, and focuses on the agent's failure rather than the emotional result (失望, shī wàng 'disappointed'). Unlike the general apology 对不起 (duì bu qǐ), 辜负 specifically implies an unfulfilled trust or expectation.
