辅导员 (fǔdǎoyuán) is a role in Chinese universities that goes beyond a general 'advisor' or 'counselor'. They are staff members who handle students' ideological education, daily affairs, and personal development, often referred to as 'political and ideological assistants'. This term is culturally specific and does not have a direct equivalent in Western educational systems.
