Definition
辄 (zhé) is a bound form (b.f.) that appears in literary or formal Chinese. Its original meaning is 'wheel track' or 'rut', which extended to mean 'way of doing something' (as in 辙, a related character). In modern usage, it most often appears as an adverb meaning 'always' or 'invariably' in the pattern 辄 + verb, found in set phrases like 动辄 ('at every turn, easily') and 浅尝辄止 ('to stop after a little taste — to dabble').
