Definition
跳闸 is a verb-object compound (离合词) that describes a circuit breaker automatically disconnecting power due to overload, short circuit, or a fault. The parts can separate: you can insert measure words (次, 回) or complements between 跳 and 闸, e.g., 跳了一次闸 ('tripped once'). It's used mainly with electrical systems, but can also refer to safety cutoffs in machinery.
