路边 (lù biān) refers to the side or edge of a road, the area along the road. Unlike 路上 (on the road) or 路口 (intersection), 路边 specifically means the roadside, not the road surface or a crossing. It is different from 人行道 (sidewalk), which is a paved path for pedestrians, and 公路 (highway), which is a type of road.
