Definition
赫赫 is a literary reduplicated adjective describing great fame, brilliance, or majesty. It appears in fixed expressions like 赫赫有名 (of great renown) and 赫赫战功 (brilliant military achievements). It is rarely used in casual conversation; you'll encounter it in formal writing, historical narratives, or ceremonial contexts. Note that some dictionaries list 'arid, dry' as an alternative sense, but this is extremely rare in modern Chinese — the word is almost exclusively used for 'illustrious, magnificent'.
