Definition
赌 (dǔ) is a colloquial single-character verb for 'to gamble' or 'to bet'. It is more common in everyday speech than the formal 赌博 (dǔ bó, 'to gamble'). For making a specific bet on an outcome, 打赌 (dǎ dǔ) is the standard phrase; but 赌 alone can also be used in casual contexts (e.g., 赌明天会不会下雨).
