Definition
资质 (zī zhì) refers to a person's innate aptitude or natural gift for a particular field (e.g., music, art). Compared to the stronger 天赋 (tiān fù, 'innate talent, gift'), 资质 is more neutral and often emphasizes potential that can be developed. It contrasts with 才能 (cái néng), which highlights trained skill or competence, and with 素质 (sù zhì), which covers broader personal qualities including character.
