Definition
诧 is a bound morpheme (b.f.) that only appears inside two-syllable words like 诧异 (chàyì, 'surprised, amazed') and 惊诧 (jīngchà, 'astonished'). You cannot use 诧 by itself as a word — it must be attached to another morpheme to form a valid term. These words are more formal and literary than the everyday word 惊讶.
