Definition
议会 is the Chinese term for 'parliament' or 'legislative assembly', a major political institution in many countries. In Chinese political discourse, the term is used broadly to refer to any body of elected representatives that makes laws, such as the UK's Parliament or the U.S. Congress. Note that China's own legislative body is called 人民代表大会 (National People's Congress), not 议会, so the word primarily describes foreign political systems in Chinese media.
