Definition
褥子 is a traditional Chinese mattress pad, typically made of cotton and placed under a bedsheet for extra softness and warmth. It is commonly used on a bed or a kang (a heated brick bed in northern China). Unlike a Western mattress (床垫) or a quilt (被子), 褥子 is a thick padded layer that goes directly on the bed frame or kang surface.
