Definition
衷 is a bound form (b.f.) that cannot stand alone in modern Chinese. It appears in compounds with two main senses: (1) 'inner feelings / heart' — e.g., 衷心 ('heartfelt'), 由衷 ('sincere, from the heart'); (2) 'middle / compromise' — e.g., 折衷 ('compromise'). Always embedded in a two-character word; you never use it by itself.
