表态 (biǎo tài) means 'to state one's position' — it's about publicly declaring where you stand on an issue. It differs from 表明 (make clear, indicate), 主张 (advocate, hold a view), 声明 (formal declaration), and 陈述 (factual statement) in that 表态 specifically focuses on revealing your stance, often in a discussion or debate.
