Definition
虽然 (suīrán) introduces a real fact that contrasts with the main clause — 'although it rained, we still went'. 即使 (jíshǐ) is for hypothetical or extreme cases ('even if it rains, we'll go'), and 尽管 (jǐnguǎn) can also mean 'although' but is slightly more formal and often implies a stronger concession.
